Swim Strong Named Local Partner for USA Swimming’s water safety initiative

May 21th 2012, New York, NY—Swim Strong Foundation is proud to announce its participation in USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash initiative.  As a partner in the New York City area Swim Strong Foundation is able to increase the reach and impact of its water safety programs and further its mission of saving and changing lives through swimming.

Make a Splash helps local learn-to-swim organizations, like the Swim Strong Foundation by providing campaigns to the local area that increase awareness about water safety and the need to learn to swim.

They also help local partners raise money for scholarship funds to provide life saving and changing swim lessons to those could not otherwise afford them.  Currently Swim Strong Foundation is hoping to raise enough money to give 40 children free swim lessons this summer.   This partnership will help make that possible for New York City youth.

“Partnering with Make A Splash is a great way of raising awareness and educating more people about the importance of water safety and learning how to swim,” says Shawn Slevin, founder of Swim Strong Foundation.

Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under 14.  According to the Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine journal participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged one to four years.
