New York City Youth Swim for a Cause

Swim Strong Foundation Hosts 1st Annual Citywide Meet to Help Raise Money for Affordable, Life Saving Swim Programs

April 15th, 2012, Queens, NY—The Swim Strong Foundation, in conjunction with United Business Media, Best Interiors Management Co. Inc., Robert L. Zic Computer Consulting, Dynasty Wholesale Distributor Inc., Modell’s Sporting Goods, Technical Digital Services of New York, Ridgewood Savings Bank and Queens County Savings Bank will be hosting the 1st Annual Spring Splash Novice Invitational Meet and Fundraiser on Saturday April 21st at 8 a.m. at Flushing Meadows Aquatic Center. Youth ages 6-18 from any non-USA swim team throughout the city will be competing. All proceeds from the meet will support the Swim Strong Foundation’s mission of saving lives by preventing drowning, combating childhood obesity, and transforming lives by teaching lessons that can be applied in and out of the pool.

Swim Strong Foundation’s work and participants are as diverse as the boroughs in which they are located. Last year, over 79 children were able to participate in Swim Strong Foundation’s swim programs free of cost thanks to scholarships. Next season Swim Strong hopes to exceed that number of scholarships so that more New York City youth can learn the life saving and life changing skills through swimming.

“When I came to Swim Strong 2 years ago I was an average swimmer,” recalls Vincent, a Swim Strong swimmer, “Since that time Swim Strong has turned me into a champion. I’ve learned discipline, responsibility, and volunteer as an instructor for younger children. My father even had to put an additional shelf in my room to hold all my swimming trophies and medals. I can’t say enough about my experience at Swim Strong.”

Swimmers can participate in multiple events. Only a limited number of swimmers will be able to register for each event. Registration is $5 per event. Spectators are asked to donate $10 in order attend.

Register your swimmer now. E-mail Shawn Slevin at Shawn.Slevin@theswimstrongfoundation.org for a registration form and more information on how to make a payment and secure a spot. Interested spectators and sponsors can also e-mail Slevin for any questions or to make a donation.
